Cristiano Ronaldo handed Sir Alex Ferguson an insight into his future when they went for dinner together back in March.

This has been reported by the Mirror, who claim that the former Red Devils chief, who is still involved in the hierarchy at the Manchester club, dined with the World Player of the Year, with the Portuguese star discussing all things Real Madrid with his former boss.

Ferguson and Ronaldo, of course, enjoyed a fine relationship at Old Trafford, as the now Real Madrid star helped the club secure numerous Premier League titles as well as Champions League silverware.

At United, of course, the forward is recognised as a club legend, with fans seemingly desperate for him to one day complete a sensational return.

In fact, it was only back in September of last year when United's current chief Louis van Gaal insisted that the future signing of Ronaldo is possible.

As reported by Sky Sports, he previously stated: "It is possible.

"That's what I have said with Falcao. Players like Ronaldo give a lot of extra to a team, but I don't think Real Madrid shall sell him."

It's unlikely

There's no doubt about it,as every year goes by, it's becoming more unlikely that Ronaldo will ever make a stunning return to the Theatre of Dreams. Now, at 30-years-old, the world's best player will soon be entering the latter stages of his career, so he may well have to make his move sooner rather than later if he really is going to return.

United fans will no doubt live in hope that a deal could be struck, but the club certainly have some world-class forward talents already at the club.

Ok, Ronaldo's former teammate Angel di Maria endured a tricky debut campaign on English soil, but he can certainly kick on next season, while new recruit Memphis Depay looks set for stardom, and could prove quite the player for the Red Devils over the coming years.
