Manchester United are reported to have sanctioned the summer departure of Robin van Persie and it would seem that Lazio is to be the destination for the striker if, of course, these claims turn out to be true.
There were reports on Friday that Van Persie has struck an agreement on a four-year contract with Lazio - not bad for someone in their 30s - and the Netherlands international will earn £10 million over the duration of this deal.
This story has since taken a further step after an image emerged on Twitter purporting to show Van Persie arriving in Rome on Saturday afternoon to conclude this move with his new employers.
The photo quite clearly shows Van Persie posing with a member of airport staff - of this part we can be absolutely sure. However, it is not yet verified that the picture, as claimed, was taken at Fiumicino airport in the Italian capital.
Van Persie had actually been in action for the Netherlands in Amsterdam the previous evening, playing just under an hour as the USA clinched a dramatic last minute 4-3 victory.
But rather than immediately jetting off on holiday like his colleagues, Van Persie seemingly had more urgent business to attend to. That is, of course, unless he was off to the Vatican City on vacation and this is all just one big coincidence.
Were he to leave Manchester United this summer then it would represent something of a dramatic decline for Van Persie, who would have thought he was in with a good chance of becoming club captain following the arrival of Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford.
But instead Van Persie endured a season of injury troubles while Manchester United enjoyed their best spell of the campaign without him in the side. Could it now be the end?
