Robin van Persie has tantalised Manchester United fans by claiming the club are preparing to blow £200m in this summer's transfer market.
The Red Devils threw caution to the wind last summer, spending upwards of £150m to sign the likes of Angel di Maria, Daley Blind and Luke Shaw whilst also agreeing a hugely expensive loan deal for Radamel Falcao.
But Louis van Gaal is not satisfied with his Manchester United squad after seeing them limp into a fourth place finish in the Premier League.
Van Gaal has already invested around £25m in PSV Eindhoven starlet Memphis Depay, but the winger's arrival promises to be just the beginning of a busy summer.
There is now an expectation at Old Trafford for Manchester United to challenge for next season's title and Van Persie is certain Van Gaal will spend big to try and catch up with Chelsea.
"United spent £200m on players last year and they are going to spend another £200m this summer so we will have a team that can compete for the title," Van Persie told reporters.
Unfortunately for Van Persie, Manchester United's spending habits could spell the end of his short stay at Old Trafford.
The 31-year-old struggled for both form and fitness last season and is not expected to be offered an extension on his current deal, which expires in 2016.
Van Persie says he intends to play plenty of football next season ahead of the European Championships whether that is at Manchester United or elsewhere.
"It is my ambition to play as many games as possible [next season]," he added. "I feel fitter than ever.
"And I know that the more games I play, the more it will help me prepare for the European Championships next summer.
"I will take everything into consideration when I decide on my future and I know I have to be realistic about the situation."
Van Persie may have failed to impress under both David Moyes and Van Gaal, but he will always have a place in Manchester United's history after his efforts almost single-handedly won them the title in 2013.
However, it now appears as if his time as a Red Devils has run its course and he is likely to see a big name come in to steal his place. Real Madrid's Karim Benzema appears to be top of the list.
Is it time Manchester United replace Robin van Persie or has he still got something to offer?
