Radamel Falcao close to joining Chelsea - Italian journalist

Gazzetta Sport writer Tancredi Palmeri has revealed on Twitter that Chelsea have agreed a deal to sign Colombian forward Radamel Falcao.

Italian journalist Palmeri, who also revealed on Twitter this week Sami Khedira would be signing for Juventus on a free transfer, tweeted that Chelsea and Falcao had "reached agreement on principles on loan and option to buy."

Interestingly there was no mention of Falcao's club Monaco in the tweet, and what role they had play in the rumoured agreement. Although are Monaco are believed to be willing to allow Falcao to leave, having loaned him to Manchester United for the 2014-15 season.

Manchester United turned down any potential option to but the former Atletico Madrid man, following his disppointing return of four goals in United colours this season.

According to Plameri, Chelsea now look set to sign Falcao on an initial loan and then have in place the option to buy. However Tancredi also states that Falcao's agent Jorge Mendes is continuing to negotiate the terms to activate the option to buy clause.

Falcao will hope a transfer to Chelsea will offer him a chance to repair his damaged profile in England, following his time with Manchester United, and if he can recapture his Vicente Calderon form he could have a real impact next season.
