Kevin Owens is still the name on every fans lips right now as he made a huge impact on his main roster debut by taking out John Cena, before defeating the United States Champion clean in the middle of the ring at the WWE Elimination Chamber pay-per-view.
The NXT Champion is set to take on John Cena once more in a rematch, which will take place on Sunday at the Money in the Bank event. With Owens having looked like a monster since his arrival on the main roster it shouldn’t end there.
It’s no secret that Triple H is a big fan of Kevin Owens. Bringing him to the WWE, pinning the NXT Championship on him and calling him up to the main roster to defeat John Cena so soon after signing with the company displays a lot of trust and he’s repaying him with great entertainment for the fans and we simply cannot get enough of him at the moment.
But we know this feud with John Cena won’t last for too long. As entertaining as it is, the WWE might be able to fit in one more pay-per-view match between the two if they wanted to, but they would need to capitalise on Owens’ popularity by taking on another big name to stay in the spotlight.
The main roster has plenty of stars Kevin Owens could target other than Samoa Joe on NXT – and he won’t even need to remain NXT Champion to do so. Let's take a look at who could be next.
Randy Orton will still be a top name in the WWE regardless of whether he’s wearing gold or not, and as a top face in the company it would make complete sense to have Kevin Owens target The Apex Predator next.
The WWE could easily show Triple H take Kevin Owens under his wing on television. It’s clear that’s what’s happening behind the cameras but doing it on screen adds something different to it, and it shows that Owens has a reason to attack Orton - to show Triple H has a new project now.
Triple H did the same back when Orton was an up-and-comer in the WWE and turned him into what he is today, Owens would not only want to follow in his footsteps but prove that he deserved the spot far more than Orton did. It'll help Owens go over more as a heel which he’s already doing brilliantly.
Neville isn’t a huge name like your Cena’s or your Orton’s but he’s certainly loved by the fans and they’ve welcomed him and the unique style he brings to the ring, and it seems like Owens has reasons to fight anyone and everyone.
The whole NXT aspect can play a big role in this one, showing how somebody like Neville – someone smaller and not as dominant as Owens – was signed to the WWE and became NXT Champion before Owens even signed up to the company. Neville was even promoted to the main roster before he was.
It would be a good battle between two champions of NXT and would show who the more dominant one really is. The fans love Neville and they love to hate Owens and it would make for a great back and forth battle. This feud helps both people, Neville needs a solid feud to bite into and Owens is a great opponent for that.
Dean Ambrose currently holds the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, albeit unofficially, and it shows he’s right at the top of the WWE right now alongside Seth Rollins. For Owens, who better is there to take out and make an impact than the current biggest face in the company?
Dean Ambrose is crazy and Kevin Owens wants to fight so that alone suggests their potential feud would be out of control which means for us fans it will result in entertainment. This feud would help elevate Owens into World Title contention which is where he belongs in the long-term but there’s no harm in throwing him into the deep end because he is proven and not as big of a risk as someone like Roman Reigns for example.
Dean Ambrose is likely to go up against Roman Reigns if rumours of a heel turn for Reigns are to be believed, but if not then Owens needs to be at the front of the queue to bring The Lunatic Fringe down a peg or two and remind him where his place is.
This would give the fans a bigger reason to dislike Roman Reigns, but it’s a crystal clear option for the WWE as on paper it would help Reigns go over as a face and it would help Owens go over as a heel.
Owens will never back down from a fight, and he could have reasons to target Roman Reigns which could potentially include Roman Reigns taking the easy route to the WWE, using the family name and that his lack of experience still resulted in him flopping in his chance at WrestleMania whereas someone like Owens deserved that spot and would have thrived.
The possibilities are endless, and unless Reigns turns heel then this would be a big coup for Owens even though he’s the more experienced competitor.
Who knows when Daniel Bryan will return? But he has confirmed he will be back and when he does return, Kevin Owens needs to be at the front of that queue to try and end his career because that’s the character he is.
Someone needs to tell Daniel Bryan that someone of his size will never be the man in the WWE; and someone needs to put an end to the Yes! Movement and who better than Kevin Owens to crush the hopes and dreams of the IWC?
This would be great for Owens as Bryan is always so over. Kevin Owens is a natural heel and simply competing in the ring with Bryan would result in him gaining nuclear heat, so imagine what a fully-fledged feud with Bryan could do.
This one is a little more audacious and out there, but Lesnar is certainly an option and if someone like Orton and Cena is the deep end then who knows what Brock Lesnar is.
Lesnar might not have the traits of a face but he will get a positive reaction upon his return, and he will definitely target the heel champion in Seth Rollins so technically that will make Lesnar a face. Having Owens go up against him would make him possibly the most hated man in the company, or at least on par with Rollins.
Owens might have to say that he is the next big thing and Lesnar’s time is over, and a feud between the two would be epic if they ever crossed paths, having a dominant star in Lesnar alongside a great heel in Owens and a great talker in Paul Heyman; it could only result in positives.
