Manchester United will reignite their interest in Southampton’s Nathaniel Clyne - putting them on collision course with rivals Liverpool.
The Red Devils are said to be back in for Clyne after Dani Alves penned a new contract with Barcelona yesterday.
Boss Louis van Gaal is in the market for a full-back having been forced to rely on converted winger Antonio Valencia for much of the season, however Alves performed a surprise u-turn and committed his future to Barcelona when he seemed set to leave.
Clyne was considered an alternative but Southampton remain confident he will reject his suitors to remain at St.Mary's. The South Coast club have already rejected one offer from Liverpool believed to have been worth around £10 million and will resist any attempts to lure him away.
That leaves Manchester United in a tricky situation as they search for a suitable target. Real Madrid's Fabio Coentrao has been suggested as an option but the Liverpool Echo suggest that for the time being they have rekindled their interest in Clyne, and add that it would take an offer of £15 million to even grab Southampton's attention.
Mandzukic could make Manchester United switch
Manchester United will be offered the chance to sign Atletico Madrid striker Mario Mandzukic this summer.
According to the the Daily Mail, the Croatian forward, who only joined the La Liga outfit one year ago, may well move on in the near future after a disappointing final few months of the season last term.
Despite his end of season struggles, Mandzukic still managed 12 La Liga goals in his debut campaign for Atletico, but it appears that the former Bayern Munich man could now be heading to the Premier League. Arsenal and Liverpool have also been linked in the past.
With Radamel Falcao gone and Robin van Persie seemingly on the verge of leaving, the Mail report that Louis van Gaal is on the lookout for two new forwards in the summer window.
De Gea close to competing Real Madrid switch
There’s been yet more speculation about David de Gea with the latest batch of reports claiming he’s agreed a £22.1 million move to Real Madrid.
The Spaniard only has one year left to run on his contract at Old Trafford and is reportedly seeking an exit back to his home country. Manchester United have offered him a £200,000-week contract which he has refused to sign, and now they are consigned to losing their player of the year.
Is Nathaniel Clyne good enough to be a Manchester United player?
