Manchester United fans have been given every reason to get excited after the club’s official betting partner, Bwin, posted a tweet onto their official account suggesting Ilkay Gundogan is to be Louis van Gaal’s next signing.
The bookies were left red-faced and forced to delete a tweet that implied the Germany international is soon to become a United player, but not before the internet did what it does best and allowed millions of people to take in the information.
As is so often the case in situations like these the tweet was screen-grabbed before Bwin could take it down and pretend it had never been put up.

The message in question, aimed at United supporters, told fans to give a warm welcome to Gundogan, who officially remains a Borussia Dortmund player.
For how long the 24-year-old will be attached to the Signal Iduna Park remains to be seen, with the midfielder himself having already confirmed that he will be seeking pastures new this summer.

The departure of Jurgen Klopp coupled with the fact that Dortmund were by all accounts woeful last season have conspired to see Gundogan look for a way out, and he’s not short of offers.
Recent rumours have inferred that he’s been in negotiations with both Barcelona and Bayern Munich; two clubs higher up in the European echelons than United can claim to be at the moment. But of course there’s obstacles regarding Gundogan joining either of those two sides, even if his contract is up this year.
Barca are still forbidden from buying any players until January 2016 due to their transfer ban, whilst Gundogan might want to avoid the backlash coming from Dortmund supporters were he to join their eternal Bundesliga rivals Bayern.
That leaves Louis van Gaal’s United with at least something of an advantage, and if Bwin are considered to be in-the-know regarding such matters - they very well could be - then fans have plenty to digest ahead of the weeks to come.
Gundogan is purported to be one of Van Gaal’s primary targets for the summer and if the Dutchman can get him to put pen to paper before the transfer window opens that will be two big deals done and dusted very early on.
