Fresh off winning the FA Cup with Arsenal at the end of last month, Alexis Sanchez enjoyed a fine evening in his homeland last night as Chile secured a 2-0 victory over Ecuador in the Copa America opener.
The Gunners star, who enjoyed a remarkable debut campaign on English soil after leaving Barcelona, will no doubt prove one of the standout stars of this competition, and certainly started in fine form.
After Juventus' Arturo Vidal handed Chile the lead, Sanchez created Chile's second of the game, as he played a fine ball through to Eduardo Vargas, who slotted the ball home to give his country all three points.
There's no doubt about it, playing on home soil, with the likes of Sanchez, Vidal and Co. at their disposal, Chile will most certainly be hoping to make a major impact at the tournament, and may well take some stopping.
They're next in action against Mexico on June 16 before finishing the group with a clash against Bolivia.
Sanchez will be even better
One thing's for sure, the Arsenal faithful will be hoping that their main man continues to produce the goods throughout the course of this tournament and then arrives back on English soil full of confidence as the Gunners go about challenging for the Premier League title next term.
There's no doubt about it, Sanchez proved the club's talisman last season, as the Gunners secured a third placed finish in England's elite division and won the FA Cup, but he will be hoping to be even better in 2015/16.
In truth, he will be hoping to emulate Eden Hazard, who played a leading role in helping Chelsea win the title last term. It's set to be another huge season for the world-class forward.
