Two goals courtesy of Mikkel Diskerud and Bobby Wood ensured a surprise victory for the United States on Wednesday after Germany took the lead through Mario Gotze early in the first half.
The world’s number one side took the lead with Bayern Munich’s Gotze cooly placing the ball past Brad Guzan after excellent footwork from Patrick Herrmann.
USA equalised just before half-time via Diskerud, with Michael Bradley playing a long ball through to the rushing Diskerud who controlled before volleying home.
The game winning goal from Wood showcases America’s talent and proves that they are becoming a force in international football.
After an excellent dummy from Jordan Morris to deceive the opposition, Wood’s fine first touch took it away from the oncoming defender and he slotted it past Ron Robert-Zieler from just outside the area.
Germany nearly grabbed an equaliser at the death when Juventus new boy Sami Khedira headed against the bar from six yards.
This was the USA’s final friendly before coach Jurgen Klinsmann announces the 23-man squad for the upcoming Gold Cup in the US and Canada.
Germany on the other hand have a relatively easy Euro 2016 qualifier at the weekend when they will come up against Gibraltar.
