Manchester United fans will be excited by the news that club director Edward Woodward could be set to complete the signing of Borussia Dortmund star Ilkay Gündoğan in the summer transfer window.

Sports betting company Betfair have slashed the odds from 3/1 to evens for the young Dortmund star to sign the Red Devils after heavy backing.

Football Trader for Betfair, Michael Bowers commented: “Spending big is absolutely the name of the game for United this summer and it looks as though they could start by meeting the high demands of the 24 year old midfielder, who is reportedly looking for no less than £170,000-a-week.

“Over 80% of the bets we’ve taken on this market are now for Ilkay Gündoğan to sign for United, and the Premier League giants have gone from 3/1 to EVENS, stealing the favourite spot from Bayern Munich.”

The midfielder has been linked to a number of clubs in the past few seasons but finally looks like he will complete a move away from The Bundesliga this summer.

Clubs including Bayern Munich (7/2), Barcelona (7/2), Arsenal (25/1) and AC Millan (25’1) have all be touted as possible destinations for the German international in the approaching window.

Gündoğan has scored a total of 13 goals in his four year spell in Germany and has helped his side reach the final of the Champions League.

He was also instrumental in Dortmund winning the Bundesliga in 2012, beating free-spending Bayern Munich to the title under the stewardship of former boss Jurgen Klopp.

If the former Nurnburg player was to leave the German outfit this season, he is expected to go for anywhere up to £30 million.
