Coveted midfielder Jack Wilshere claims he will remain an Arsenal player, as he has been his entire career to date, so long as he still feels wanted at the Emirates Stadium.

Wilshere has been linked with a move away from Arsenal during this summer transfer window as Manchester City look to fulfil their ‘homegrown’ requirement by recruiting some established English talent.

However, Wilshere has no interest in pursuing a transfer in order to tick a box and would much rather stay with the Gunners if the north London club continue to demonstrate that he is a player of great importance.

“I definitely would not go somewhere just because I am a homegrown player,” Wilshere told reporters.

“I’d want to be wanted by a club, I want to be wanted by Arsenal."

“I have grown up at Arsenal, and as long as Arsenal want me, then I am happy.”

The 23-year-old still has three years remaining on his current Arsenal contract and will be eager, as will the club, to fulfil that commitment injury free after the consistent troubles he has endured so far.

Wilshere has been plagued by all manner of complaints since breaking into Arsene Wenger’s first team, and made only nine Premier League starts in the recently concluded season after yet more ankle surgery.

In his absence, Arsenal did enjoy their finest season in some years as they finished in the top three having mounted a wonderful spell of form after the turn of the year. It will be interesting to see just where a fully fit Wilshere will feature next term, particularly if more transfer business is conducted.
