Manchester United are closing in on their second signing of the season in Valencia defender Nicolas Otamendi according to Italian journalist Nicolò Schira.
The Argentinian is currently away on international duty with his national team at the Copa America, but it seems his move away from Spain is gathering pace.
Nicolò Schira claims that Manchester United have offered the centre-back a deal until 2019 and that the fee has been set at £25 million.
The Red Devils have already signed their first player of transfer window in PSV Eindhoven winger Memphis Depay and boss Louis van Gaal is likely to at least match the £150 million he spent last summer.
The Dutch boss is on the lookout for a new centre-back and has been linked with a host of top targets including Otamendi. The 27-year-old has made his intentions that he wants to leave Valencia known to the club and according to Schira he will soon get his wish.
He wrote: "Manchester United looking to close the deal for Nicolas Otamendi from Valencia for 25 mln £. #MUFC has offered a contract until 2019."
Otamendi's agent has also revealed that his client is seeking a move away from Valencia. "Nico wants to leave Valencia and is going to do everything possible to achieve it," Eugino Lopez said last month.
"Nicolas told [executive president] Amadeo Salvo to his face two months ago, it surprises me that it is said that [sporting director] Rufete knew nothing. Or he lied or there is a lack of communication. In these cases the will of the player is very important."
