Everton are closing in on the acquisition of Gerard Deulofeu from Barcelona, with a deal close to being agreed.
According to reports by the Daily Mail, the transfer will cost £3m and will see the midfielder return for a second spell at Goodison Park.
The 21-year-old spent the 2013-14 season on loan at Everton – Roberto Martinez’s first season saw the Toffees qualify for the Europa League.
Last season wasn’t as successful for either party though, as Everton laboured to an 11th place finish.
Meanwhile, Deulofeu spent the season struggling for game time with Europa League winners Sevilla.
The Spaniard’s previous spell on Merseyside yielded three Premier League goals, including the equaliser in a 1-1 draw away to Arsenal.
The arrival of Deulofeu is likely to signal the end of any pursuit made for Aaron Lennon, after the winger spent the second half of the 2014-15 campaign at Goodison Park on loan from Tottenham.
Roberto Martinez has already completed his first signing of the summer, acquiring Tom Cleverley on a free transfer after his Manchester United contract expired.
The FA Cup winning manager will want to improve on what was a difficult second season in charge of Everton. After a disappointing campaign, he will want to seriously strengthen his squad.
