Manchester United have identified Ajax goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen as the no.1 transfer target to replace Real Madrid bound David de Gea, reports the Mirror.
Cillissen, who is 26-years-old, plays in the Dutch Eredivisie and made 32 appearances for Ajax in the league last season. Louis van Gaal knows the Holland International well after working alongside him at last summer’s World Cup.
De Gea, who was signed from Atletico Madrid for a fee of £18.9million was himself brought in as a replacement for the retired Edwin van der Sar in 2011.
He endured a tough start to life at Old Trafford in the early stages of his recruitment but has since grew to be amongst the best keepers in the world, hence alerting Real Madrid.
Cillissen is Manchester United’s preferred option, even though the Red Devils signed former Barcelona stopper Victor Valdes in January.
United have been linked with several keepers around the world, with Chelsea outcast Petr Cech and Real Madrid’s Iker Casillas also on Louis van Gaal’s radar.
