Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone may well have put the Premier League duo of Manchester United and Chelsea on alert after revealing that Koke and Diego Godin are the only untouchable players at the club.

As reported by The Sun, Simeone, who led Atletico to a third placed finish in La Liga last term, has admitted that it's not up to him whether some of the club's leading stars depart the club in the upcoming transfer window.

Simeone's revelation over midfield ace Koke will no doubt come as a blow to Chelsea, who had previously been linked with a stunning £40 million move for the player.

The Atletico boss told reporters: “Of course, at Atletico there are few players who can be considered untouchable — Koke, Godin and that’s about it, I’d say.”

Despite hinting that certain players could be on the way out of the club this summer, Simeone went on to insist that he was happy with the attacking partnership of Mario Mandzukic and Antoine Griezmann, who have also been linked with moves to the Premier League.

He continued by saying: “We are pleased with Mandzukic. He and Griezmann formed a beautiful pair in attack.

“Who goes and who stays is not up to me. The club will decide what is best.”

United and Chelsea targets

One thing's for sure, Manchester United and Chelsea officials will surely have an interest in Simeone's latest admission. The Red Devils have been linked with the Atletico duo of Mandzukic and Miranda of late, while Chelsea have also been credited with interest in the latter.

In fact, as well as Miranda, the Blues have also been linked with Griezmann, but it's far from certain as to whether either club will step up their interest in the talented players anytime soon.

Huge summer for LVG

There's no doubt about it, Blues boss Jose Mourinho only needs to add a couple of top quality players to his wonderful squad at Stamford Bridge, but United boss Louis van Gaal has a huge summer ahead of him.

At then end of the day, if the Dutch boss is serious about overhauling the west London outfit at the summit of the Premier League table, then he must make the right additions this summer, as he goes about finding a balance to his current side.

Ultimately, the signing of Memphis Depay will only improve the Red Devils, but it's clear for all to see that the club must invest in other areas of the pitch. After the departure of Colombian Radamel Falcao, it's crucial the club find a world-class replacement.

Mandzukic, of course, would bring a great deal of experience to Old Trafford, but some would argue that he's not the right man to lead the club's line. If signed, though, he'd most certainly give the club a different option when going forward.
