Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has been told not to waste his time by making a move to sign Atletico Madrid ace Koke this summer.
The Spaniard is rated as one of the best young players in Europe and was a key part of their 2013/14 title winning season, as well as their run to the Champions League final.
Chelsea have been heavily linked with the 23-year-old for some time now, however boss Diego Simeone has ruled out any chance of selling one of his prized assets at any price.
He told reporters: “Of course, at Atletico there are few players who can be considered untouchable — Koke, Godin and that’s about it, I’d say.”
Chelsea have also been linked with striker Mario Madzukic, along with Premier League rivals Manchester United, however Simeone also insisted that the Croatian is going nowhere. “We are pleased with Mandzukic," he explained. "He and Griezmann formed a beautiful pair in attack. Who goes and who stays is not up to me. The club will decide what is best.”
Chelsea have successfully raided Atletico Madrid before for the likes of Diego Costa and Filipe Luis, while Thibaut Courtois spent three seasons on loan at the Vicente Calderon.
Although Chelsea have been linked with both Mandzukic and Koke, it seems as though the Blues top target is another Atletico ace, Antoine Griezmann.
The French international set La Liga alight last season after joining from Real Sociedad, managing 22 league goals in 37 games.
He is viewed as a potential replacement for Loic Remy, who is likely to see less first team action diminish when Radamel Falcao's arrival is confirmed. The French international is reportedly being targeted by Southampton and Swansea amidst fears he could be bumped down the pecking order when the Colombian signs on the dotted line.
Chelsea have been pretty successful at raiding Atletico Madrid in the past, and if they pull off a move for Griezmann this summer it would be the icing on the cake.
The Spanish side have been forced to contend with bigger clubs taking their best players for some time now, but it seems they are fairly confident of keeping hold of the Frenchman. Reading between the lined with Simeone, he seems no-plussed about potentially losing Mandzukic although Mourinho is unlikely to make a move for him.
