Football News

A very good morning to you, Arsenal fans. Welcome to our daily news roundup that focuses on all things Gunners-related.

As is to be expected there’s plenty of transfer gossip to fuel your fires for another 24 hours, and as a little added bonus we’ve got some verrrrry interesting quotes from overseas that should be enough to carry you over the course of the weekend.

Without further ado let’s revel in the pool of rumours regarding Arsenal today. Enjoy.

Martinez makes Gunners fans happy

There hasn’t been a transfer window pass of late that hasn’t seen Jackson Martinez hotly linked with a move to Arsenal. The Colombia international is a prolific frontman who has accrued a deadly reputation in Europe and Arsene Wenger is in need of an out-and-out goalscorer.

As a result two and two makes four and the Gunners are once more being linked with a move to sign him. If that is the case then the north London giants will lap up what he’s had to say recently, as he stated that Arsenal were a great team playing in one of the best leagues in the world.

"Arsenal are a great team, playing in one of the best leagues in the world," Martinez said.

"I'm still waiting to see what the future holds. It's not known yet but it will be known soon. For now I'm fully focused in the Copa America."

Take from that what you will but it’s enough to get our tongues wagging, that’s for sure. Not only does this summer look almost certain to be the one wherein Martinez finally makes his move to a bigger club than Porto, but Arsenal have proven over the course of the last two summer windows that they’re serious about improving their squad and will pay big money to do it.

Said to be available for a relatively paltry £25million Martinez is a superb candidate to help Wenger’s Premier League title charge next season. Can the Frenchman negotiate a deal?

Cech a done deal?

Meanwhile the transfer of Petr Cech to the Emirates Stadium is all but sealed, as Wenger has promised him that he will be first-choice ‘keeper. The demand was believed to be the last hurdle in a potential deal being finished, but now that it’s out of the way Cech can become an Arsenal player.

That means that one of either Wojciech Szczesny or David Ospina will likely leave the club - our money is on the latter - but in any case the player who stays is going to have to get used to life on the bench.

wilshere update

Lastly we’ve got an update on the speculation surrounding Jack Wilshere. Yesterday it was reported that Manchester City were set to test Arsenal’s resolve with regards to keeping the England international by offering £30m.

Word on the grapevine today however relays that the Gunners would only entertain bids of £50m or more. Dead in the water? We think so.
