Former Manchester United player Louis Saha has revealed his belief that Alexandre Lacazette can be a huge hit at Old Trafford.
As relayed by the Daily Mirror, Saha believes Louis van Gaal must sign a striker to partner Wayne Rooney, and sees his compatriot as the ideal man for the job.
Lacazette highly recommended
Lyon striker Lacazette scored 27 goals in 33 games to end the 2014/15 season as Ligue 1's top scorer and Saha feels his pace is exactly what the United frontline need.
Saha told the Manchester Evening News: “I think it’s a must United sign a striker.
“Because you always have the need for competition up front, that’s what brings excellence to every player.
"Could Lacazette thrive at United? I think so, it’s obvious he’s done really well in France, he’s scored many, many goals because he can threaten behind, he can score from far, he’s a very clever player.”
Striker needed at Old Trafford
With Van Gaal's decision to not extend Radamel Falcao's stay at Old Trafford, the United boss needs to fill the void which has been left. The pressing demand to sign a striker was emphasised last season, as Rooney was United's lowest top scorer since 1982, only notching 14 goals.
Van Gaal has been monitoring Tottenham striker Harry Kane and Real Madrid's Karim Benzema closely, but should those deals not materialise, Lacazette could be his next best option.
Lyon keen to hang on to striker
Although, if United pursue Lacazette they can expect reluctance from Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas, who maintains the Ligue 1 outfit will do their upmost to keep the French striker.
As seen in Goal, Lyon have made plans to offer the prolific goalscorer €4 million-per-year to stay at Stade de Gerland and if bids do come in for the 24-year old, have declared that he will not be sold for less than €40 million.
