Nicolas Otamendi has told friends he wants to join Manchester United this summer - however his price tag could be too expensive.
The Argentinian is currently away with his country at the Copa America in Chile, but that hasn't stopped speculation about his future.
Manchester United are in desperate need of a new centre-back in the summer window and reportedly has Mats Hummels at the top of his list. However the Borussia Dortmund man is believed to be close to penning a new deal in Germany, forcing boss Louis van Gaal to look elsewhere.

Otamendi is "desperat2" to leave Valencia and wants to make the move to Old Trafford, however the Mirror report that the Spanish club aren't willing to let him leave for less than the £33 million release clause written into his contract.
Manchester United aren't willing to pay that figure for a player who isn't their primary target and talks will reach an impasse if neither side backs down. The Red Devils consider £25 million a more reasonable price tag, while Otamendi is said to be willing to take a pay-cut to make the move happen.

The defender has previously hinted that he was seeking an exit and had authorised his agent to begin looking for a new club. “Valencia know very well what I want,” he told ESPN. “From there, every word my agent says is obviously with my authorisation."
“(My agent) Fully has my authorisation to speak with whoever he needs to.
"I've had a talk with the president and my agent, and he knows very well what my wish is, but for now I've told my agent that my head is here and I'm leaving it in his hands, to do what he needs to do."
Those in the know suggest that Otamendi is the better option for Manchester United over Hummels, such is his quality.
He looks to be in fine form if his performances at the Copa America are anything to go by, he is assured on the ball and reads the game superbly well, just the type of player Manchester United don't have at the moment.
Chris Smalling is fairly limited while Phil Jones' future is seemingly at right-back, while Jonny Evans could be on the move soon. Van Gaal wants to build a team in his own image and that starts from the back, and it could well start with Otamendi.
