Liverpool are considering staging a last-ditch bid to attempt to disrupt negotiations between Manchester United and Hoffenheim star Roberto Firmino, according to reports.
The Daily Mirror relays how the Reds are keen to launch their own campaign to sign the Brazilian, despite the fact that United are believed to be in advanced talks with him over a summer move to Old Trafford.
Firmino set for move
Recently Firmino’s agent made it clear his client was looking to move to the Premier League - putting the likes of United and Liverpool on red alert - but just which club he would prefer to switch to is anyone’s guess at this point.
Given that it’s United who are in formal talks with him - again, this coming from the Mirror - it can be assumed that they are in pole position to complete a deal, though Liverpool are proven themselves to be savvy when it comes to transfers in recent weeks.
Just this morning was it confirmed that the Reds have beaten Arsenal to Charlton Athletic’s Joe Gomez, whilst Danny Ings, James Milner and Adam Bogdan have already pledged their futures to Anfield.
On top of that is the fact that Liverpool might be able to offer Firmino an easier path to first-team football.
Battle for Firmino
When it comes to competition for places United boast an envious helping in the final third, and dislodging the likes of Angel Di Maria, Juan Mata, Wayne Rooney and new signing Memphis Depay will be more difficult than doing so with seemingly exit-bound Raheem Sterling, Adam Lallana, Mario Balotelli and Lazar Markovic.
