Football agent Muzzi Ozcan appeared to announce the signing of Dimitri Payet last night on his twitter feed.
However, moments later the tweet was deleted and the agent, who is a friend of new Hammers boss Slaven Bilic, claimed his account had been hacked and promised West Ham fans that he would update them tomorrow morning.
Payet to West Ham?
Payet, 28, has made 14 appearances for the French national team and last season for Marseille he managed seven goals in 36 appearances, as well as getting the most assists in Ligue 1 (21). The attacking midfielder played a vital role in helping side finish 4th this season in France's elite division.
West Ham started last season well, scoring 30 goals before Christmas and sitting sixth in the table. However with the goals drying up in the second half of the campaign it was clear that the club needed reliable attacking options, something Bilic has seen in Payet.
Improving the Hammers' strike force
It is also rumoured that should this deal fall through Bilic will return to former club Besiktas in order to sign Gokhan Tore. Payet would be West Ham's third signing of the summer, following the arrival of goalkeeper Darren Randolph (28) from Birmingham City and Former Spain U-21 player Pedro Obiang (23) from Sampdoria.
West Ham have been linked to a host of players, including a fresh loan deal for Carl Jenkinson, who impressed last season, as well as a permanent deal for Alex Song, who put in a number of strong performances during his time on loan at the club.
Payet would join up with the squad, who begin their Europa League campaign on July 2 after qualifying through the Fair Play League.
