Chelsea are preparing a shock summer move for Tottenham Hotspur outcast Mousa Dembele, and are willing to meet the north London club's £12 million valuation of the midfielder.
That's according to The Sun on Sunday, who suggest the Belgium international could make a surprise switch to Stamford Bridge in the forthcoming transfer window after falling out of first-team favour under Mauricio Pochettino.
With John Obi Mikel expected to leave the Blues next month, Jose Mourinho is on the lookout for a slightly more creative replacement for the Nigerian enforcer, and the 27-year-old has been identified as a value-for-money acquisition.
Mikel started just 13 games in all competitions for Chelsea last term and has emerged as a target for Super Lig giants Fenerbahce. He'll be allowed to move on providing the Portuguese coach can find a suitable successor.
Dembele, meanwhile has seen his first-team opportunities at White Hart Lane limited since the arrival of Pochettino, who has used the former Fulham man sparingly, starting only ten of the 38 Premier League games in 2014/15.
It's debatable whether the Belgian would actually have any more chances of playing in west London, particularly when you consider the strength and depth of Mourinho's title-winning squad.
However, Dembele has been on The Special One's radar for quite some time, first attracting his attention whilst playing in the Eredivisie for AZ Alkmaar, during the 52-year-old tactician's first stint in chage at Chelsea.
