WWE has come under fire this week after another shambles of a divas match at Money in the Bank, followed by a straightforward squash match on Raw, but could WWE be planning something big for the division?
Nikki Bella is closing in on AJ Lee's Divas Championship record and it seems WWE are happy to allow her to surpass AJ, but at the same time Nikki could be spearheading history for WWE.
It seems no one in the Divas locker room is happy to stand up for Paige when The Bellas have Stephanie McMahon on side but it seems that Paige could have allies elsewhere.
Alicia Fox cost Paige a win over Brie Bella on Smackdown and it seems this could be the way the division is going to be until someone stands up for Paige, and it seems Charlotte could be that person.
It makes sense for the women of NXT to come up and support Paige given the way Nikki is controlling the women's division on the main roster. Nikki gets a lot of praise for what she does when the women in NXT are in matches that are more physical and are also given a lot more time to showcase their talent.
Women like Sasha Banks, Becky Lynch and Bayley would be the perfect candidates to lead an NXT invasion of the divas division and this could even lead into an NXT vs WWE divas match at Survivor Series in November. But as for right now, it seems Paige has to be taken down before she will be allowed back up.
Many of the women on the main roster are jealous that Paige is a two time divas champion after just a year on the main roster and that she was given a title shot on her début, so the storyline for her does make a lot of sense. She has also turned on every partner she has ever had, including Alicia Fox and AJ Lee which leave the divas unable to trust her, which is why none of them will be at her side.
The "twin magic" element of the last few matches has been hard to swallow given that the two girls are no longer twins, but at Money in the Bank the match shouldn't have been restarted after Brie appeared because she put her hands on Paige, that is a disqualification.
Hopefully WWE are allowing this to lead to a place where the divas are relevant again, given the talent they have in their hands, there is no way that the women can fail if they are booked appropriately, but it's sad to see how far they have come since the golden age of the Women.
