Expect the unexpected in the WWE, that is a rule it's millions of fans learn quickly.

Nowhere is the unexpected more likely to play out than during the WWE's annual extravaganza, WrestleMania.

Crazy plan

So when WWE legend The Rock lets slip that the company had plans to unite him with a legend from a whole different sport for one epic tag-team tag-team match the WWE Universe takes notice.

Speaking during an appearance on The Dan Patrick Show, The Rock revealed how the WWE wanted t to team him with NFL veteran Ray Lewis for a tag-team match during his Attitude Era heyday.

WrestleMania is known for it's crazy one-of storylines - see Ronda Rousey this past April - and The Rock says he and Lewis were set to team up against "whoever the top heels at the time - probably Triple H and someone else."

At their peak

The revelation will have fans cursing their luck that the match never played out.

With Ray Lewis known as one of the most intense NFL players ever it surely would have brought the house down to see him put his hard-hitting expertise to use against HHH when the latter was at his most hated.

The Rock, too, was at his peak during the infamous Attitude Era days of the late '90s and 00s and had many an epic WrestleMania match during that time.

Still, seeing him team up with a fellow former University of Miami football player to reek havoc would have been something truly memorable.
