The annual release of the latest FIFA console game is usually met by huge anticipation from fans eager to get their hands on a copy.
However this year, those feelings have been replaced by trepidation with news that Jordan Henderson may be selected to appear on the front cover.
For the first time FIFA have granted fans permission to vote for who they want to appear on the UK version of the front cover alongside Lionel Messi.
This is a spot that is usually reserved for Ballon d'Or contenders, or players with worldwide appeal.
Previous editions have seen the likes of Edgar Davids, Thierry Henry and Ronaldinho all grace the front cover at the height of their careers.
Paired with Messi
However, this year's edition will bring about a change to that tradition as it is Sergio Aguero, Harry Kane, Thibaut Courtois and Jordan Henderson who have been shortlisted for selection, and worryingly enough for some fans, it is Henderson who is by far leading the way in the voting.
Without wishing to suggest that Henderson is not deserving of his place in the selection, he is not the typical calibre of player usually granted such notoriety and thus appears as somewhat of a joke candidate to some.
Yet with multiple votes allowed per person, it would appear that Liverpool fans have voted in mass to get their captain onto the cover, even creating the twitter hashtag #VoteHenderson to help his campaign.
A little bit petty?
However, clearly unhappy that Henderson looks set to grace the front cover, fans of the game have taken to social media to voice their displeasure, leading to some fans even threatening to boycott the game if the Liverpool midfielder wins the vote.
Strange as it sounds, Jordan Henderson will almost certainly be paired with Lionel Messi to appear on FIFA's next front cover.
Possibly through merit, but more then likely as some form of practical joke, this has been achieved.
Though there remains one question left unanswered, where have all the Arsenal fans been during the voting?
