There has been much speculation from the media regarding the transfer dealings of Manchester United, however, in recent days, names of World Cup winners have been banded around concerning a potential move to Old Trafford.
It has been reported that Sergio Ramos has felt he has deserved an improved contract at Madrid, however, the club have been hesitant to offer his demands, consequently creating speculation of a move away from the Bernabeu. It has been suggested that David De Gea may be used as a vehicle to negotiate a move for the Spanish centre-half.
German stalwart, Bastian Schweinsteiger has also be rumoured for a move away from Bayern Munich to join up with Van Gaal's United, as reported by The Telegraph. The 30-year-old midfielder may be the perfect replacement for Michael Carrick in the holding midfield role as well as his ability to offer his services in more advanced positions.
With one year left on his contract at Bayern, securing the signature of Schweinsteiger is perhaps a more realistic target than Ramos.
The sceptics amongst us will question what Manchester United offers Schweinsteiger and Sergio Ramos to lure them away from clubs that have given and still promises to give them silverware. Perhaps the idea of a new challenge attracts them to Old Trafford, having won all they can win at their respective clubs.
United fans will argue that they have heard all this before in terms of a big name signing making their way to Old Trafford, as recently as the end of this season. Reports suggested that Brazilian left-back, Dani Alves, was ready to leave Barcelona for pastures new and that Manchester United was his next destination.
However, the lengthy contract saga ended shortly after Barcelona's Champion's League triumph when the Brazilian penned an contract extension which will see him through to the end of the 2016/17 season at the Nou Camp.
It would seem that Manchester United are the club that agents linked their players with when they want an improvement or extension on their contract at their current club, much to the annoyance of the United faithful. Many Manchester United fans will perhaps take the news of the potential transfers of Bastian Schweinsteiger and Sergio Ramos with a pinch of salt.
