The likes of Karim Benzema, Sergio Ramos, Bastian Schweinsteiger and fellow countryman Jasper Cillessen could be on their way to Old Trafford.
Van Gaal is looking to turn the Red Devils into title challengers again with the spine of their side being completely renovated. Despite United finishing in fourth and qualifying for the Champions League the Dutchman still believes that new players will get them back with the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea.
With number one David De Gea set to leave for Real Madrid, Van Gaal has eyed up Ajax’s Cillessen as his replacement in between the sticks, who was Van Gaal’s first-choice at last year’s World Cup. Ajax’s valuate Cillessen at £25million but the Dutchman believes United can land the goalkeeper for around £20 million.
Van Gaal is looking to bring in players who have major experience in winning trophies, rather than looking at the younger talent who will take years to hit their potential.
The second man United are eyeing up is Madrid’s Sergio Ramos, they will be hoping to use De Gea in a deal to take the defender to Old Trafford. The Red Devils will insist that no deal with De Gea can be done unless Ramos moves the other way.
Bastian Schweinsteiger could also potentially be heading to England in a deal, the German has one year left on his contract at Bayern Munich – with United looking to pounce. The 20 times champions need a holding midfielder, as usual starter Michael Carrick currently injured and not getting any younger with him turning 34 next month.
The last player on his list is Frenchman Karim Benzema, the Real striker could be set to replace outgoing Robin Van Persie as Fenerbahce look to take the Dutchman to Turkey.
It will be a long summer for Van Gaal and United as they look to strengthen their squad even further with Memphis Depay having already been signed up.
Are Manchester United going after the right players?
