Manchester United are set to secure the £24 million signing of Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin next week.
This has been reported by the Mirror, who claim that the Red Devils are set to hand the French international a four-year deal to star at Old Trafford for the foreseeable future.
Schneiderlin, of course, has enjoyed a great deal of success over the last couple of years in the Premier League, and is now recognised as one of the top midfielders in the division.
It's not surprising, then, that Manchester United look set to bring the dynamic Frenchman to the club, with the Red Devils having beaten the north London duo of Arsenal and Tottenham to the player's signature.
In fact, the Independent claim that the Manchester outfit see the Southampton man as a long term replacement for 33-year-old Michael Carrick, while they suggest that the club will offer the player as much as £120,000-a-week in wages.
Schneiderlin, then, looks set to become United's second signing of the summer, with the club having already secured the services of Dutch international Memphis Depay.
With the Schneiderlin signing imminent, it appears that the Red Devils won't press ahead with a move for Bayern Munich ace Bastian Schweinsteiger, who has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford.
Ok, so Schneiderlin may not have the same pedigree as Schweinsteiger, but the Frenchman will no doubt prove a wonderful coup for Van Gaal and Co.
Ultimately, the Southampton man is yet to reach the prime of his career, and is already one of the leading midfielders in England's elite division. At 25-years of age, there's no reason why the Southampton man won't be able to excel under the Dutch regime.
At the end of the day, the Red Devils clearly need a balance to their side if they're going to challenge for the Premier League title next term, and Schneiderlin will certainly provide that in the midfield.
With so many fine creative, attacking players starring at the club, the Saints ace will flourish in the centre of the park, and will have a key role to play instantly. At £24m, the Frenchman, who has proved his credentials in England, is great value for United, who are slowly but surely putting together a side ready to challenge for silverware.
