Andy Cole believes Liverpool are signing the best right-back in England in the form of Nathaniel Clyne.
The Reds have agreed a £12 million fee with Southampton for Clyne, who will undergo a medical at Anfield when he returns from his holiday next week and is expected to sign a five-year deal.
The 24-year-old has established himself as an England international while at St Mary's and made more tackles than any other defender in the Premier League last season with a total of 115.
And former Manchester United striker, Cole feels that Clyne is a top-class player and Liverpool have pulled off a smart piece of business.
"Nathaniel Clyne going to Liverpool sounds like a good deal to me," Cole said, via The Express.
"I think he is the best right back in the country, I really do.
"He has done very well at Southampton and at £12m Liverpool have got a good deal, it’s not ridiculous money so both parties will be happy with that.
"He’s a good player, he has proved that at Southampton and he was massively disappointed he didn’t play for England and so he should be.
"He’s the best right back, and he is a right back. That’s England putting round pegs in square holes again."
Clyne will become Liverpool's sixth signing of the summer, alongside: James Milner, Danny Ings, Adam Bogdan, Joe Gomez and Roberto Firmino.
Clyne will replace Glen Johnson in Brendan Rodgers' squad who has left the club as a free agent.
Right-back is an area that was severely vulnerable for the Reds last season, with Rodgers failing to select a regular in the position.
Johnson was neglected for the most part as well as being injured and Javier Manquillo who signed a two-year loan deal from Atletico Madrid last summer, also failed to impress.
Jon Flanagan was vastly used by Rodgers during Liverpool's title-challenging campaign in 2013/14, however, he spent the whole of last season injured and also will miss the majority of next campaign after undergoing knee surgery.
Rodgers used a number of players at right wing-back as the Northern Irishman opted to play three centre-backs during the 2014/15 term.
Jordan Henderson, Jordan Ibe, Raheem Sterling and Lazar Markovic, amongst others all took their turns to play out of position, likewise Emre Can who occupied the role in the latter stages of the season was often left highly exposed.
However, Rodgers now has one of the most exciting full-backs in football. Clyne is an England international, who is rated highly by his peers and was tipped to go all the way to the top by Saints manager Ronald Koeman.
