Premier League champions Chelsea are ready to offer defender Filipe Luis plus cash to lure Atletico Madrid midfielder Arda Turan to Stamford Bridge this summer, according to Spanish daily AS.
Chelsea failed in their prolonged pursuit of Frenchman Antoine Griezmann, who may not be moving away from the Spanish capital due to the reluctance of Diego Simeone to let one of his key signings leave Vicente Calderon.
Jose Mourinho reportedly turned attention to Turkish international Arda Turan and the move could become a reality as soon as July 10 after reported statements from Turan’s agent Ahmet Bulut.
Bulut has been quoted saying: "He(Turan) intends to leave Spain this summer. It is his will to go out to play in the Premier League, that is where he would like to continue his career at this time.”
He further added: "There are ongoing talks with three teams at the moment. I cannot say their names, but they are the best of England and European football.”
Bulut also claims Turan has a clause of €41million in his current contract with Atletico and Brazilian defender Filipe Luis could be pivotal in the deal going through.
Manchester United as well as Liverpool are also in the running for the 28-year-old’s signature but Atletico would be tempted by welcoming back Luis from Chelsea in exchange for Turan.
Linked with Atletico players
Chelsea’s interest in Atletico players is nothing new as prior to this they have been linked with moves for Griezmann, Koke and veteran Portuguese midfielder Tiago in recent seasons.
Former Atletico players Diego Costa and Thibaut Courtois have already tasted success in their Chelsea spells and could be joined by another former Atletico striker, Radamel Falcao, next season.
Ranked 38th among “The 100 best footballers in the world” by The Guardian in 2014, Turan is one of the talented footballers Turkey has ever produced.
The Telegraph reports Turan attempted 96 dribbles with a pass success rate of 85.4% alongside 64 tackles and 27 interceptions in his 32 league appearances for the Rojiblancos last term.
The dynamic winger will not find it difficult to settle at West London as he will have former teammates Costa and Courtois for company.
With passing, dribbling, holding on to the ball and defensive contribution being key strengths, as per Whoscored.com, Turan would be a major addition to the Chelsea roster.
