Manchester United fans started getting excited last night after Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos started following a Red Devils supporter on Twitter.

Ramos, who has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford over the last few days, took to the social media network site to follow the Manchester United fan, who was clearly overjoyed.

Unsurprisingly, the United supporter sent the Spanish international a direct message, claiming that the experienced defender was his idol and favourite player.

Manchester United, of course, are seemingly intent on adding to their squad ahead of the 2015/16 campaign, and it appears that club officials are ready to recruit Ramos sooner rather than later.

And, there's no doubt about it, Ramos' most recent actions will only excite the United faithful even further ahead of a potential summer move...

Great signing

Of course, this transfer saga may well rumble on for some time yet, but it's one that the Red Devils should look to get done sooner rather than later.

At the end of the day, at 29-years of age, Ramos is one of the most established and experienced defenders in the game, and would only improve Van Gaal's options at the back, as the club go about making a major impact on the domestic and European scene.

Ok, he's not going to come cheap, but the Red Devils are clearly in need of a leader, and Ramos is just that.
