Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo will have to do all of the running if he's ever going to complete a sensational return to Manchester United.
This has been reported by the Telegraph, who claim that the Portuguese superstar, who left Old Tafford behind in 2009 for a then world record deal of £80 million, previously handed the club assurances that he would join them when David Moyes replaced Sir Alex Ferguson as the club's manager.
The report goes on to claim that Ronaldo used United's interest to secure himself a new five-year deal at the Bernabeu, meaning he will now have to push through any future potential deal himself if he opts to return to Manchester.
Ronaldo, of course, is recognised by many as the world's best player, but at 30-years of age, he's not getting any younger, and a move back to The Theatre of Dreams is seemingly more unlikely with every passing summer.
No doubt, the majority of Manchester United fans would still welcome him back with open arms, but it appears that it will take something rather special to see him in the red shirt of United anytime soon.
United's own superstars
Let's be honest, it may well be time to forget Ronaldo, and United fans should certianly be excited by some of their young talents.
Ok they aren't Ronaldo, but in new recruit Memphis Depay and Belgian international Adnan Januzaj, the Red Devils have two very special young stars in their ranks. Deapy, of course, looks set for a huge future in the game after agreeing to join United, while Januzaj will be hoping to kick on after last season's disappointing campaign.
Of course, we can't forget Angel di Maria, who will no doubt be determined to kick on in Manchester sooner rather than later. His debut campaign on English soil didn't go to plan, but there's no reason why he can't excel when handed a permanent position in the club's starting XI. The Red Devils are in need of a talisman for the 2015/16 season, and Di Maria could yet be that.
