According to reports emerging today, Liverpool have agreed a £12.5 million fee with Southampton for highly rated right-back Nathaniel Clyne.

The 24-year-old defender has attracted lots of interest from Premier League big guns Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool after his performances last year at St.Mary's but it seems as though the Merseyside club have won the race to land his signature.

Clyne will be Brendan Rodgers' sixth acquisition in a busy summer transfer window, joining Roberto Firmino, Danny Ings, James Milner, Adam Bogdan and youngster Joe Gomez at Anfield.

While the Raheem Sterling transfer saga continues, it looks likely that Glen Johnson will leave the Reds on a free transfer after his contract expires in June and Clyne is seen as his ideal replacement at Liverpool.

The latest reports suggest that Clyne has undergone a medical at Melwood and will complete his transfer in the coming days.

Is Nathaniel Clyne a good enough replacement for Glen Johnson?
