Manchester United potential XI for next season

Published 14 Comments

It's all about finding a balance for Louis van Gaal at Manchester United this summer. Last season, as the Red Devils secured a place in the top four, things were slowly but surely coming together under the Dutch regime.

Van Gaal and Co. managed to regain the club's Champions League status, but there will be new expectations ahead of the 2015/16 campaign. After two years without silverware, all involved at Manchester United will expect the Premier League title to return to the Theatre of Dreams.

The United hierarchy, then, must deliver in the transfer window, as the club go about putting a squad together to challenge on all fronts once again.  In truth, though, United don't need too many new signings: they have already acquired the services of Dutch youngster Memphis Depay, who will no doubt become a key player for the club over the coming years.

Southampton's Morgan Schneiderlin is seemingly closing in on a move to Manchester, while the duo of Seamus Coleman and Sergio Ramos continue to be linked to the club.

That quartet, then, may well be enough for the club to make a real go of things next season...

Potential starting XI

Valdes is ideal and the defence will be stronger

The David de Gea saga may well rumble on for some time, but if he does depart, then former Barcelona man Victor Valdes is an ideal replacement - for a couple of seasons, at least.

The shot-stopper is one of the most established and experienced goalkeepers in the game, and will no doubt help a potential new-look Manchester United back-line settle down right from the off.

If the Red Devils manage to land Seamus Coleman, then he will prove a fine coup, as he has been one of the most consistent right-backs in the division over the last couple of years, while Sergio Ramos will prove the world-class defender Manchester United have been looking for since the departures of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic.

Chris Smalling stepped up towards the end of last season, while it's all to play for in terms of the left-back position, with Marcos Rojo, Luke Shaw and even Daley Blind in with a chance of securing the spot.

Midfield options are great

Perhaps, the most exciting thing for Manchester United fans is the amount of options Louis van Gaal looks set to have at his disposal in the midfield department. Gone are the days that the Red Devils are struggling in the middle of the park, with the likes of Michael Carrick, Daley Blind, Marouane Fellaini, Ander Herrera and quite possibly Morgan Schneiderlin fighting it out for places.

There's no doubt about it, there will be certain games when Van Gaal looks to mix things up, and Mata may not always be guaranteed a place in the starting XI, with the United boss potentially handing Herrera or Fellaini a role in the side.

On the wings, too, United suddenly have a number of fine players, with Ashley Young, Antonio Valencia, Adnan Januzaj, Memphis Depay and Angel di Maria starring for the club.

Play Mata behind Rooney

That may well leave Spaniard Juan Mata to play behind captain Wayne Rooney. Between them they have the creativity to produce the goods for the Red Devils in terms of goals.

And if the duo of Memphis Depay and Angel di Maria manage to find their best form, then there's no reason why they can't score plenty of goals in 2015/16. That attacking quartet certainly has the potential to destroy numerous defences in the Premier League, and it's an exciting prospect ahead of the new campaign.

And the back-up XI isn't bad
