Chelsea have made an immediate attempt to purchase a successor for Petr Cech having reportedly tabled an unsuccessful offer for Stoke City’s Asmir Begovic.
Earlier on today it was confirmed that Cech had completed his long-awaited move to Premier League rivals Arsenal, effectively leaving Thibaut Courtois as Jose Mourinho’s only reliable option between the sticks.
However, according to breaking reports in the Daily Telegraph, Chelsea have wasted little time in finding Cech’s replacement, already testing Stoke’s resolve with regards to keeping hold of star man Begovic.

The big Bosnian stopper is a key figure at the Britannia Stadium, hence why the Blues’ opening proposal of £6million has been turned down, but that was only after extensive negotiations between the two parties today.
It’s purported that rather than accept an initial fee from Chelsea the powers that be at Stoke would prefer to hold out for an increase sum around the £8m mark.

Decision to be made
Whether or not Mourinho’s desire to lure Begovic to west London is enough for him to pay that figure remains to be seen, but he certainly needs another consistently good ‘keeper.
If the Telegraph’s report is to be believed then Chelsea will return with an improved offer for Begovic within the next two days as they aim to quell any fears that they will start next season without a reputable number two to Courtois, who has made the number one slot his own since returning from a three-year loan spell at Atletico Madrid.
The right man for the job?
Not only would Begovic’s experience make him another reliable option in goal but his ability is as such as to ensure he keeps Courtois on his toes at the very least, perhaps even challenging the Belgium international for his position without alarming him to the point of wanting to move himself, as would be the case if Cech’s replacement was a flagship name like David de Gea.
Mourinho is said to be ready to pay Begovic double what he is on at Stoke in an effort to rule out the chance of him refusing to move, though there appears to be some talks still necessary before any deal is agreed.
