Chelsea are set to miss out on transfer target Douglas Costa after the attacking midfielder confirmed that Bayern Munich are interested in his services.
The 24-year-old playmaker has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge in recent times, but The Guardian reports that talks are ongoing between his current club, Shakhtar Donetsk, and the Bundesliga winners.
Costa has been tipped to join the German giants for over a week now, with the Daily Mail reporting earlier in the month that Pep Guardiola was on the verge of completing a £25million deal for the former Gremio starlet.
“Discussions have been held between my club and Bayern. But as we speak I know of nothing more than an interest from Bayern,” he told Sport Bild magazine.
A deal is yet to go through though, and if Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho does want the creative South American at Stamford Bridge then he will need to move quickly to beat the Bavarians to the signature.
It's been a summer of exits for the Blues thus far in 2015, with Petr Cech the latest player to move away from west London. Didier Drogba ended his second stint on the King's Road at the conclusion of last season, whilst Gael Kakuta and Thorgan Hazard have also left permanently.
Young midfielder Nathan is the only addition to the Chelsea squad thus far this summer, although the teenager is unlikely to be pushing for a place in the first team anytime soon.
He has added to the Blues' Brazilian contingent though, with Oscar, Ramires, Filipe Luis and Willian all plying their trade under Mourinho.
It remains to be seen if Douglas Costa will be added to that quartet, but unless Chelsea move quickly it looks less likely to happen.
