Manchester United would be completing one of the biggest transfers in Premier League history by signing Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos this summer.
This has been claimed by ex-England striker Rodney Marsh, who believes the signing of Ramos would give the Red Devils an edge ahead of the 2015/16 campaign.
As reported by talkSPORT, Marsh has insisted that it would be a huge transfer, and would prove 'sensational' for both the club and the league.
The future of Ramos, of course, has been the subject of much debate in recent time, with Manchester United heavily linked with his signature.
In fact, it was reported by Sky Sports last night that the Red Devils had made a big of £28.6 million for the Spanish international, with the player intent on moving to the club sooner rather than later.
And Marsh certainly thinks the prospect of Ramos lining up in the red shirt next season would prove a game-changer.
Speaking to the Sports Bar, the ex-Manchester City man stated: “Sergio Ramos to Manchester United is huge. It would be one of the biggest signings in Premier League history.
“It would be sensational for the league and for Manchester United. It would give them an edge.”
It's far from certain as to whether Real Madrid officials will allow Ramos to sign for United in the upcoming window, with the player's release clause currently set at an incredible £128 million.
Let's be honest, the signing of Ramos for Manchester United really would prove an incredible coup for the club, as they go in search of becoming a formidable force in Europe once again.
Ultimately, under Louis van Gaal, United really are on the up, but they're clearly in need of a world-class addition to lead their back-line, and Ramos is most certainly that.
The Spaniard is one of the most experienced and established defenders in the game, so the Red Devils must do all they can to get this deal over the line sooner rather than later. Of course, it's not going to be easy, but this really would give United a huge boost ahead of the new season.
If Ramos is leading the defence, then Van Gaal's side will have a huge platform to prove their credentials on both the domestic and European scene immediately. This potential signing really cannot be underestimated.
