Eduardo Vargas fired Chile to victory last night with a stunning goal over 10-man Peru to reach their first Copa America final in 28 years.

Arturo Vidal was lucky not to see red early on before Peru defender Carlos Zambrano was sent off after taking down Charles Aranguiz.

Vargas put Chile ahead in an ugly goal that was later found to have been offside, but Peru equalised with Gary Medel heading the ball into his own net.

However ex-QPR Vargas showed the sort of form so needed by QPR last season, firing in a stunning goal that gave Chile a deserved victory.

Peru still felt aggrieved by the result and were visibly furious, protesting that Vidal should have been sent off and Chile's first goal was offside.

One game away

Chile have never won the Copa America in 99 years of the tournaments existence and they are now just one game away from sealing it on home turf.

They will now face either Paraguay or Argentina in the final.
