Huge news has broken regarding Manchester United. Real Madrid captain and key defender Sergio Ramos has supposedly told his club that he wants to leave and play for Louis Van Gaal's side.

According to Sky Sports, United have made a bid of £28.6 million for the Spanish World Cup winning defender. There have been widespread reports all summer that Ramos, who has two years left on his current contract, is unhappy at the Bernebeau and wants to play for United.

Sky Sports sources claim that this deal is looking increasingly likely to go through as Ramos has made it clear that he does not want to play for Madrid anymore. Sky Sports Spanish football expert Graham Hunter claims: "Ramos has told Madrid directly that he is absolutely and completely committed to leaving the club this summer, that he specifically wants them to begin negotiations with Manchester United and that he doesn't want them to negotiate with anybody except Manchester United."

This news will excite United fans as Ramos is arguably exactly the type of defender they desperately need. Ramos is a born leader and has won nearly every major trophy in Europe. Arguably with Ramos in the United team, it would add strength to the spine of the time for sure but also would give them the leader on the pitch they desperately need.

Graham hunter continued by stating that Ramos wants to be a major part of the rebuilding of Manchester United and turning it into the club it once was. Ramos' will to win and ability would be massively important for the Red Devils who once again have European football on their agenda for the season following coming fourth in the Premier League in 2014/15.

Ramos who has won the Champions League with Real Madrid in 2013/14 would add a serious level of experience and drive to Van Gaal's side. At 29 years of age, the Spanish international defender certainly has several years left at the highest level and it looks almost certain now that he wants to ply his trade in the Premier League for Manchester United.

Van Gaal will be extremely confident that he will be able to get his man as he has a massive transfer resource at his disposal. Ramos who has two years left on his contract with Real Madrid will be almost certainly guaranteed a pay rise on his contract if he signs for United.

Ramos was linked with a move to Barcelona but it appears that this was completely false.Ramos was apparently unhappy that Real Madrid did not dismiss the story that they offered him to the Spanish champions with whom he has had a rivalry throughout his Real Madrid years.

One other reason for the falling out between the club and Ramos is the sacking of former head coach Carlo Ancelotti who was a firm favourite of the players. Rafael Benitez replaced the Italian manager and this certainly has caused problems with individual players in the Real Madrid dressing room.

How much do you think Sergio Ramos is actually worth?
