Manchester United have entered the race to sign highly-rated Holland international midfielder Jordy Clasie, according to Dutch publication Voetbal International.
The report claims that Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal is keen to recruit the Feyenoord star during the summer transfer window after identifying the 24-year-old as a suitable long-term successor to Michael Carrick at Old Trafford.
Clasie has been heavily linked with a move away from the Eredivisie this month after attracting admiring glances from a number of Premier League suitors.

The Daily Telegraph claimed last weekend that both Aston Villa and Southampton were preparing offers for the talented playmaker and hoped to lure him from De Kuip in time for the start of the 2015/15 campaign.
Saints boss Ronald Koeman knows Clasie well from his time in charge of the Rotterdam club where the player is currently based and is thought to have sounded him out as a replacement for want-away midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin at St Mary's.

The France international was believed to be on Manchester United's radar, but news of Van Gaal's alleged interest in Clasie could well have quashed his plans to take the 25-year-old to the Theatre of Dreams.
With a £25 million valuation placed on Schneiderlin's head, Clasie would certainly represent a cheaper option for the Premier League giants, and the fact the former Ajax, Bayern Munich and Barcelona head coach has worked with the player during his time in charge of the Netherlands national team makes it seem like a sensible deal.
Clasie still has three years to run on his current contract with Feyenoord, but with the club always looking to balance their books it won't take a massive bid to convince senior officials to cash-in on their captain this summer.
So, whilst a Premier League switch seemingly beckons for the Holland star, it still remains to be seen where Clasie will end up plying his trade next season. Will it be Manchester United, Southampton or Aston Villa, or somewhere else?
