Blind's 'fantastic offer'

Daley Blind’s father, Danny Blind, has revealed that the offer he received from Manchester United last year was fantastic, but still opted to reject Louis van Gaal’s advances.

Blind, who has now been named as the new head coach of the Holland national team, opted not to follow his son to Old Trafford last year despite the fact that Van Gaal wanted him to join his back-room staff.

"I had a fantastic offer from Manchester United.

"There were talks about United and Van Gaal, a couple of times last year. But I rejected that. If you have ambition what is more beautiful than to become manager of your country," Blind Senior told sources.

Following the departure of Guus Hiddink from his role as Van Gaal’s successor in the Netherlands set up, Blind will now try and navigate a route to the European Championships with the four remaining qualification games.

Holland are currently third in their group, behind Iceland and the Czech Republic and realistically can’t afford to drop anymore points if they’re to make the tournament in France next year.

Quite the fall from grace for a team who featured in the World Cup final in 2010 and made the semi-finals of the same competition just last year.

De Gea deadline

In transfer news David de Gea apparently wants to have completed his move to Real Madrid before Monday, when United’s pre-season training is set to begin. Reports in Spain say De Gea isn’t keen on returning to Carrington and has already said his goodbyes to those he will be leaving behind in Manchester.

What could positively influence his changes of a deal being agreed sooner rather than later is the fact that the Red Devils are reportedly ready to accept an offer of €35million, rather than holding out for €46m as was previously claimed.

Di Maria claims (yawn)

Lastly rumours from the continent have thrown up yet another transfer story regarding Angel Di Maria, suggesting that Paris Saint-Germain once again want to strike a deal for the Argentinian as they’ve come to the realisation that neither Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo can be purchased this summer.

Di Maria had an indifferent first season at Old Trafford despite being the club’s record signing. Could it be that Van Gaal would dispense of his services already?
