Stone Cold Steve Austin has been named as the cover star of the upcoming WWE 2K16 video game.

An icon of the beloved 'Attitude Era', the Texas Rattlesnake replaces the WWE 2K15 cover superstar John Cena on the cover of the video game.

Austin joins a list of legendary current and former WWE superstars that have graced the cover of the 2K Sports game. A list which includes Cena, Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, CM Punk and Randy Orton.

Austin is still one of the most popular WWE superstars despite last wrestling back in 2003. His podcast, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin Podcast, as well as several WWE TV shows and the occasional return to the ring.

He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2009 and is a six-time WWE champion, so he definitely deserves to have the accolade of being on the cover of this game.

Austin said in an interview for mcvuk.com: “I’ve had the privilege of working with 2K to support the WWE 2K franchise, and now I’m absolutely honored to serve as the WWE 2K16 cover superstar,”

“No disrespect to the previous and extremely deserving WWE 2K cover superstars – Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and John Cena – but it’s about time the franchise raised some hell with yours truly on the cover.

"I look forward to injecting a dose of ‘Texas Rattlesnake’ into this year’s game and overall campaign.”

WWE 2K16 developers have announced there will be 120 playable characters in the game, nearly double the 67 playable in the previous game. The game is set to be available in the UK on October 30 on PS4, PS3, Xbox One, and Xbox 360.
