Iker Casillas is set to make a surprise move to FC Porto that will open the door for David de Gea’s transfer to the Santiago Bernabeu to be completed, according to Spanish TV reports.
As relayed by the Daily Mail TVE are reporting that Porto have made an offer for Casillas that he is seriously considering, and if it’s successful it would eliminate the final obstacle standing in the way of De Gea’s potential return to his homeland.
So far this year it’s been perhaps the biggest transfer saga of the summer, De Gea possibly joining Real, but it’s believed that if Casillas can be shifted the negotiations will be considerably easier.

Key to a deal
Los Blancos and new boss Rafael Benitez are keen to move Casillas on before the end of this summer, but doing so to one of the club’s greatest ever stalwarts is naturally difficult.
That’s why Porto’s new interest, and their subsequent proposal that has been confirmed by Casillas’ agent, could be the key to unlocking a door that has thus far been hard to break down.
If the 33-year-old leaves De Gea’s move to fill his place at the Bernabeu would then be a formality, with the Old Trafford stopper regarded as his compatriot’s ideal replacement.
According to reports Benitez isn’t keen on using two gifted ‘keepers who share their duties between league and cup competitions - as his predecessor Carlo Ancelotti was - meaning that Casillas will probably have to depart if he’s to get regular game-time.
Porto interest genuine
By the same token though De Gea isn’t going to want to turn his back on United unless he’s guaranteed the number one jersey, a promise far more easily made if he has no competition.
In any case the good news is that Casillas is supposedly ready to take Porto up on their offer. The Portuguese giants are now managed by Julen Lopetegui, who used to play for Real himself, and Casillas’ agent has let on that his club know where he stands on the move.
"Iker is enthusiastic about possibility of Porto. Real Madrid already has the proposal and know the will of Iker," he said.
Future to unfold quickly
What will happen next is largely dependant on if Real are willing to let Casillas leave for the sum they’ve been offered. If they are then they can focus their full attentions on convincing United to part ways with De Gea.
The Red Devils are supposedly holding out for £35million, but given that he only has a year left on his contract they could be successfully bartered with.
