For weeks, it has been the most stale storyline on the WWE roster and fans have been becoming increasingly angry by it.
The love triangle between Rusev, Dolph Ziggler and Lana and in recent weeks, Summer Rae has also found herself included in it.
Shots finally fired
The feud has the right personalities to be explosive but there was one key problem, Rusev has a broken ankle making any actual altercations between them unlikely.
Many felt that with Rusev suffering an injury that kept him on crutches since before Elimination Chamber, he should have been kept off of TV.
However the WWE have remained bold and kept him involved and it now appears that they could be set to get their reward.
Once again, Rusev came to the ring with Summer Rae tonight on RAW and once again, he was on crutches, but this week, there was a twist ending.
Rusev is now seemingly back to full fitness and showcased that by savagely attacking Ziggler first with one of his crutches, then with the very cast on his leg.
Rusev would then take off the protective cast and move around the ring easily to continue the attack on Ziggler.
The attack would only end when Rusev would drive the crutch deep into the throat of Ziggler who would later be shown leaving the building in an ambulance.
Finally a showdown?
With Rusev now presumably cleared to compete once again and Battleground just two weeks away, it is not unexpected to see the two go head to head in St Louis.
Both were meant to be involved in the Elimination Chamber match for the Intercontinental Championship at Elimination Chamber but Rusev suffered his injury the week before it meaning the two would not come to blows.
Rusev has still only been pinned once in his career on the main roster and that was to John Cena at WrestleMania.
So for Ziggler to be taking on the Bulgarian Brute should produce a great match at Battleground and who knows what could happen in this previously stagnant feud.
