Twitter was abuzz with debate over whether Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez was better than Chelsea's Eden Hazard after the former scored the winning penalty in Chile's Copa America final against Argentina in a shootout, following a 0-0 draw.

According to some Arsenal fans, Sanchez's exploits in South America's biggest football competition has elevated him above Hazard, who himself has yet to win a major title with Belgium.

Hazard won the Professional Footballers' Association, Football Writers' Association and Barclays Player of the year awards respectively after shining for Chelsea in last season's Premier League-winning campaign.

However, Sanchez won the fan-voted Facebook Player of the Season award - a victory which many believe was only achieved because of Arsenal fans' high level of participation in social media polls.

Both players played most of last season on the left wing, although Sànchez also played several games on the opposite flank and upfront.

The Chilean scored 16 Premier League goals and provided eight assists last season, while Hazard accumulated 14 and nine respectively.

Some argue that these stats prove that Sanchez is more clinical than Hazard, as he made four fewer league starts and three fewer appearances than the Belgian.

However, former Arsenal defender Martin Keown conceded in April that he views Hazard as the more technically advanced player of the two.

The debate is likely to continue well into the upcoming season, as the two stars prepare to do battle once again in the Premier League title race.
