Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas has endured a torrid last few weeks. An Achilles injury suffered last month forced the Costa Rican to miss the Gold Cup, with the 28-year-old custodian now back in Madrid to be assessed by his club doctors.
Things could be about to get worse. In a recent interview with Augustin Martin of Spanish newspaper AS, Navas talked about the potential arrival of Manchester United’s David de Gea and the competition he would bring with him to the Santiago Bernabeau.
However, despite the fact De Gea could significantly limit the game-time on offer to Navas, he doesn't seem phased by the idea.

“He’s a great keeper – an excellent keeper. He’s done really well at Manchester United and he is a goalkeeper who deserves respect – as we all do,” he said.
When asked about the competition for the coveted No.1 jersey at Real, the Costa Rica international was not perturbed, saying he will defend his ground and fight for his place.

“I’m relaxed about it – I’m always going to have to compete with whoever I have at my side. Of course I’ll defend my ground and I will fight with everything I’ve got to win a first choice place in the side – that is what I have wanted for a long time.
“I’ll keep battling to realise my dreams.”
Ramos to United?
Navas also admitted that he has not spoken to the reportedly Manchester United-bound Sergio Ramos since he arrived back in Madrid.
“No, I haven’t had the chance to speak to him. But for us, Sergio is a very important players and I hope he stays. We’ll see what happens,” he added.
The 28-year-old then conceded that he has no idea whether Ramos will be wearing the Real Madrid shirt next season, citing the matter as personal and saying that his position as a teammate does not allow him to comment.
“That I don’t know. You’ll have to ask him. I can only speak as a team mate and what concerns us professionally; some issues are personal and it’s not right for me to comment on,” he said.
Navas’s comments on Ramos have definitely opened a can of fresh rumours in what is proving to be one of the biggest transfer sagas of this year.
