Manchester United are interested in signing West Ham striker Diafra Sakho as a potential replacement for the Fenerbahce-bound Robin van Persie.
This is according to the Daily Mail, who understand that Manchester United scouts have been impressed by the £15 million-rated forward since his arrival at Upton Park last summer.
The Senegal international scored 12 goals in 26 appearances for the Hammers last season, including a header past David de Gea at Old Trafford back in September.

United are still attempting to sign Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller, according to the same report, but may settle for Sakho if they are unable to prise the Germany international away from the Allianz Arena.
West Ham will be determined to hold onto their African striker, who the club’s co-chairman David Gold believes possesses “world-class” potential, but could be open to negotiations if United submit a big enough offer.
Van Gaal expected to sign new striker
The Red Devils might be tempted to use Javier Hernandez as bait to sign the former Metz striker; the Mexico international is wanted by West Ham, although the recent injury he sustained to his collarbone means the Hammers have switched their focus to AS Roma’s Mattia Destro.
Manchester United fans expect - and hope - that Louis van Gaal has at least one high-profile striker lined up after allowing Van Persie to leave the club.
That the veteran Dutch coach also snubbed the opportunity to sign Radamel Falcao, who has been snapped up by Chelsea, and has allowed Will Keane to leave Old Trafford on loan suggests United will sign at least one new forward before their opening Premier League fixture against Tottenham on August 8.
Fans not happy with latest rumours
But the idea that Manchester United could replace Van Persie, a top international striker, with Sakho has not gone down well with supporters on Twitter.
Check out some of these reactions.
Diafra Sakho is not the answer for Man United
The Red Devils’ faithful want to see a marquee name arrive through the doors of Old Trafford this summer: Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema, Paris Saint-Germain’s Edinson Cavani and Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette are three star forwards who have been linked with moves in recent weeks.
While Sakho may have impressed David Gold and the West Ham supporters, he is surely not the man to fire Manchester United to glory in both the Premier League and Champions League over the coming seasons.
