William Carvalho has been linked with Arsenal for a couple of seasons now and is a regular name on the lips of the transfer gods - however he is now being linked with a move to La Liga giants Real Madrid.
Newly-appointed manager Rafa Benitez is keen to put his mark on the squad and Carvalho is believed to be one of his top targets.
However Madrid are not willing to meet the 23-year-old's release clause which reportedly stands at £32 million, but the Spanish giants might have a change of heart should Spanish international Asier Illarramendi complete a move away from the Bernabeu for a reported £16 million.
Liverpool are being strongly linked with the midfielder, who only joined Real Madrid in 2013.
Sporting are keen to hold on to Carvalho and hope to keep the midfielder, who has been at his current club since he was 13-years-old.
The release clause of the Portuguese international has been enough to fight off Manchester United and Arsenal but will it be enough to fend off interest from the Spanish giants?
