Sterling, meanwhile, looks all but certain to complete his move to the Etihad Stadium move Anfield after being omitted from the Liverpool squad for the club’s pre-season tour of the Far East.
The 20-year-old, whose relationship with Brendan Rodgers is reportedly beyond repair, told his manager earlier this week that he had no intention of travelling with the rest of the squad this weekend.
Cheryshev a decent replacement for Sterling?
Sterling missed training twice last week through illness but will be relieved that Manchester City have decided to increase their bid in order to secure his services.
The deal is expected to be completed within the next couple of days.
Cheryshev, who scored seven goals in 40 appearances while on loan with Villarreal last season, is certainly a talented winger with a huge amount of potential.
But whether Liverpool fans feel the Russian would be an upgrade - or even a like-for-like replacement - for Sterling is another matter.
