Matteo Darmian fits the bill for Louis van Gaal's Manchester United

Published 1 Comments

Matteo Darmian's move from Torino to Manchester United has been completed.

The Italian international became United's second major transfer of the summer following Memphis Depay and could prove to be one of the smartest signings of the window.

Darmian has experienced a somewhat meteoric rise in the world of football after an unsuccessful stint at AC Milan at the beginning of his career.

Over the past four seasons Darmian has grown into one of the finest full-backs in Europe after his consistent and effective displays for Torino.

He has become 'Mr. Dependable' in Turin and his performances have been pivotal to the clubs resurgence in Serie A.

His characteristics and talents will appeal to the ever experimental Louis van Gaal with his versatility and high energy levels.

Darmian has equally impressed on both flanks during his time in Turin and was also used at the centre of defence in the earlier stages of his career.

Van Gaal's time at United has been criticised for his experimental formations and styles of play, which have produced inconsistent period of form for United.

The problem for Van Gaal has been that many of the players in the United squad lack true versatility, particularly defensively.

Antonio Valencia may have performed to a respectable standard last season but it is clear that his future should certainly lie further forward.

Darmian's could help fill a lot of gaps in Van Gaal's philosophy at United, a player he can use in a variety of positions while also bringing a touch of European class.

Brightest talents

Torino's impressive run in the Europa League last season will only further add to Darmian's pedigree as one of Europe's brightest talent.

Internationally Darmian was a member of Italy's 2014 World Cup squad and was arguably the finest player on the pitch in a recent friendly with none other than Roy Hodgson's England.

Manchester United are craving consistency in their squad and in Darmian they may have found an answer to what has been a plaguing issue at the club.
